Who We Are

Who We Are

The World Affairs Council of Rochester, New York Inc. (WACR) is one of over 95 affiliates of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA), headquartered in Washington D.C. with several thousand individual members nationwide.  WACA represents and supports the largest non-partisan network of local councils in the U.S. – each dedicated to educating, inspiring and engaging Americans in international affairs and the critical global issues of our times.

The Rochester Council is comprised of members from a variety of disciplines – business, education, the professions, students, and retirees.  Members are bonded together by one common thread:  All of us are vitally interested in international issues and are keenly aware of the necessity to stay informed on a wide range of foreign policy topics.

To further the goal of providing in-depth, timely and topical information on world issues, we invite speakers with expertise in foreign affairs to present their perspectives, views, and insights to us. Speakers are former US ambassadors, members of the State Department, foreign correspondents with first-hand knowledge of issues/governments, authors of relevant books, and university professors specializing in certain geo-political areas.  Key foreign policy issues are often controversial and we make every effort to provide speakers representing all sides of a topic.
